2SCR Video - On the Range in Kuwait...

As we received emails from Chris during his stay in Kuwait, I found myself wondering what the sites and sounds looked and sounded like during their staging preps - especially on the range. How did they spend some of their day?...what was their focus while getting their equipment ready? If you missed those blogs you can get a look here and here...

Well, thanks to a former 3rd Infantry Division, 981st MP Co soldier and his post on YouTube we get a glimpse of how the 2SCR fine-tuned their Strykers on the range...

Strap on your goggles, grab your ear plugs and take a peek inside the work of the 2SCR while in Kuwait...run your eyes over the Stryker vehicle and its armament...this is their transportation and protection while on patrol...sit inside the Stryker and get a birds-eye view of today's technology - and we wondered how all the hours our young warriors spent as kids holding a joystick tethered to an X-Box would ever be of use ;-)...and remember the heat they were working in...

What do you see? Could we keep up? I wonder...I am once again humbled by these warriors...

So what I want to know is who is taking all this video? Is this an official duty for some soldier?

CJ - great question...and you thought I didn't have a life, eh? ;-)

My instincts tell me he has someone currently on active duty who is pushing the videos to him to post on YouTube...but thats just a guess...

You can check out his full story here on YouTube...

CJ - he is picking most of it up off of DVIDS - Digital Video and Imagery Distribution system...and then reposting to YouTube...

DVIDS is a state-of-the-art, 24/7 operation that provides a timely, accurate and reliable connection between the media around the world and the military serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.

Through a network of portable Ku-band satellite transmitters located in-theater and a distribution hub in Atlanta, Georgia, DVIDS makes available real-time broadcast-quality video, still images and print products as well as immediate interview opportunities with service members, commanders and subject matter experts.

OK - so how do find all this stuff out? You say you spend 15-20 mins online - I spend hours online and don't know about this stuff. Share your wealth :)
And tell us about how easy it is to blog so we can get Out of our Inboxes

And that still doesn't answer the question of who is behind the camera! Is it hanging off one of the soldiers helmets?
Inquiring minds want to know!

CJ - think combat cameramen...

The DVIDS mission is to serve as a turnkey operation that facilitates requests for Public Affairs video, audio, still imagery and print products; coordinates interviews with soldiers and commanders in a combat zone and provides an archive for ongoing operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.

So there is a lot of information available to the general public that the news media has no clue about or choses to ignore. This is all very interesting and helpful to those families who have sons, daughters, wives, husbands, ... in the fight. Thanks for sharing this info with the world collabman!

I know you began this blog as your own personal journey. But what a job you are doing for the rest of us. I have to say that the photos on the Wall of Heroes no longer show the faces of "our baby faces in battle gear" but of "our outstanding men ready for a mission." Could we have ever been more proud of them than at this time?

Marti - your words are spot on...we are all so very proud of our warriors...well said!

CM,

I've been inspired by your blog and the amazing multimedia effects and tried to start my own blog to share my travel adventures with friends. When I tried to create a blog I had a problem with google & blogger.com. After I log in they sit in an infinite loop trying to figure out the next step. google.com redirects to blogger.com redirects to google.com redirects to ... yikes! Have you had this issue? Any ideas how to resolve? It works ok on my work laptop but all my data is on my home laptop!

CJ - Yikes, I have not had any problems with the Google blogger software or for that matter any of the Google services...

Here is what I did...

(1) Created a Google Account which gives you access to all of the Google services via one login. You create an account here:
https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?sendvemail=true&followup=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.blogger.com%2Floginz%3Fd%3D%252Fhome&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.blogger.com%2Floginz%3Fd%3D%252Fcreate-blog.g&service=blogger&naui=8&hl=en

(2) Named my blog...

(3) Picked my template...

Try accessing your Google Account using a different web browser...

If that does not work, lets talk in person...
