Trash or Threat?

The info hounds have been hunting tonight and there is a lot to talk about. How has your day been? How is your battle rhythm? This is tough but my family is staying strong and holding tight...are you ok?

We had a call from Chris today...more about that in my next blog so hang on...

Ever think about the work our warriors from the 2nd SCR perform to mitigate or eliminate an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), the deadly weapon of choice for the insurgents? I do because it is a serious threat to Chris and the rest of the 2nd SCR. Why? According to iCasualties.org, 38.6 percent of American casualties in the Iraq War are caused by IEDs.

Not sure what an IED is and why they are a threat to our warriors? Click here to learn a little more...

Finally, what does it look like on the ground as our 2nd SCR warriors deal with the IED threat? Take a peek at this video that was just released...its pretty gritty so grab your body armor, suit up and hop a ride as they ask...

Trash or threat?

Slip into their boots...how would you deal with this threat?

How would I handle this? Very carefully.
A better question would be could I handle this?
It is said you don't really know how you would handle any situation until you are faced with it.
Sitting here in the safety of my home,I fortunately am not faced with the situation because there are many brave warriors in Iraq making sure that will never happen. They are faced with this on a daily basis and no matter how well trained they are, this is still an unkown for them. They must be vigilant and as they travel the same path they have to watch for the unknown. Was that barrel there yesterday? If not, why is it here today? Could it have been put there by the enemy? Is it an IED? They are fighting an enemy unlike any other and they must be suspicious of everything. In order to beat them at their game, trust noone and nothing. This is a cunning enemy, without remorse and watching you blow up puts a smile on their faces. Sickening isn't it?

Marti - thanks for your thoughts. Sickening? You bet it is...

Asymmetrical and unconventional warfare...today, all you need is a bag of explosives and a few garage door openers and its game on...

Thanks for all you do ma'am...stay strong!
