Invisible Wounds...

Name tags belonging to U.S. Army soldiers from First Squadron, Second Stryker Cavalry Regiment are left as a tribute next to the boots of their fallen comrade, Cpl. Steven Candelo during a memorial service in Baghdad, Iraq on Sunday, April 13, 2008. Cpl. Candelo, 21, from Houston, Texas, was killed by a roadside bomb during clashes in the Shiite stronghold of Sadr City on March 26. (AP Photo/Maya Alleruzzo)

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.

Evening...

The photos in tonight's blog tell a simple yet powerful story of the loss our warriors in the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment have experienced along the way in this deployment. It causes me to ask myself...

How much time do they have to grieve?

When will the loss hit home?

Who will be there for them and their invisible wounds?

I wonder...do you?

I don't think there is anytime for grieving. Maybe it hits home after deployment. Unless our soldiers talk to us about their experiences will we ever know the answer to your questions?
